Boreham Wood have strengthened their squad by signing Chelsea academy goalkeeper Ted Curd on loan.
The 19-year-old England Under-19 international will join the National League club initially on a one-month deal, although Boreham Wood have indicated that the arrangement is intended to run for the remainder of the season.
Curd arrives as cover for 35-year-old Nathan Ashmore, who has moved to Bedford Town in the National League North on a loan deal until the end of the campaign.
The Chelsea academy graduate is expected to gain valuable first-team experience in the competitive National League environment, providing Boreham Wood with a promising, agile option between the posts.
“We are delighted to bring Ted in,” a Boreham Wood spokesperson said. “He’s a talented young goalkeeper who will help us maintain our standards at the back, and this loan will give him important senior experience.”
Curd’s move follows a growing trend of Chelsea young players gaining exposure at lower league clubs to accelerate their development and prepare for potential first-team opportunities in the future.
