Chelsea’s future forward Emanuel Emegha has received his first senior call-up to the Netherlands national team, following an impressive start to the season with Strasbourg.

The 20-year-old striker, who Chelsea signed from their sister club Strasbourg in September, is set to join the Blues at Cobham next summer after completing his final season in France.

Emegha has hit the ground running, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his opening eight matches for Strasbourg this campaign. His form has caught the eye of Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman, who has added him to the squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Poland and Lithuania.

The Netherlands currently lead Group G, three points ahead of Poland, and Koeman called up Emegha as cover for former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst, who is recovering from a minor injury.

A statement from the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) read:

“Ronald Koeman has added Emanuel Emegha to the squad in Zeist. The striker’s call-up is due to Wout Weghorst’s physical condition. The Ajax player is not fully fit, and the coming days will determine his availability for the Poland game.”

Emegha, a former Dutch Under-21 international, impressed last season by scoring 14 goals and providing three assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg under manager Liam Rosenior, where he also captained the side. His performances earned him a move to Chelsea, who see him as a key prospect for the future.

With his speed, finishing ability, and leadership qualities already on display in France, Emegha’s first senior international experience is expected to accelerate his development ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge.
